Nadia Myre, Indian Act

Indian Act speaks of the realities of colonization - the effects of contact, and its often-broken and untranslated contracts. The piece consists of all 56 pages of the Canadian Federal Government’s Indian Act mounted on stroud cloth and sewn over with red and white glass beads. Each word is replaced with white beads sewn into the document; the red beads replace the negative space.

So here’s what August has been looking like for me. The top page was very fun, I pulled out the dried paint from my palette and collaged it. A thanks to Ashley who was sweet enough to send me those bunny stickers (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧

Also the middle page is a picture Tayla drew for me and if you aren’t following her already then you probably should because she knows the art things very well <3

Quote
"When you are washing the dishes, washing the dishes must be the most important thing in your life. Just as when you are drinking tea, drinking tea must be the most important thing in your life. Drink your tea slowly and reverently, as if it is the axis on which the whole world revolves—slowly, evenly, without rushing toward the future. Live the actual moment. Only this actual moment is life."

i bought this telegram, because it’s probably the best thing i’ve ever seen.  i’m framing it.  it cost $1.

I’m guessing the brassy dame in question here is named “Mavis”, or “Ethel”, or something else deliciously old-timey.
